Super Range Goose Gun

Super Range was a trade name used on shotguns made for Sears, Roebuck and Company of Chicago and made by Meriden Firearms Company of Meriden, CT.

Meriden Firearms Company manufactured 8 and 10 gauge guns on machinery purchased from Crescent Fire Arms Company in 1915 which had originally belonged to W. H. Davenport Arms Company and on which Davenport had made his 8 and 10 gauge Goose Guns. One can speculate that Sears called their Super Range gun a Goose Gun since that was what it had been named originally by Davenport who produced it in the period 1891-1901. Hopkins and Allen purchased W. H. Davenport Arms Company in 1901 and made the Goose Gun under the Davenport name until it sold Davenport to Crescent Arms Company in 1909, who made only the 10 gauge Goose Gun in the six years they owned the machinery.

To further complicate matters even more, J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company marketed their Model 85 as the Super Long Range Goose Gun in the 1915 era.
